My friend Leslie is getting married in October, and my friend Jess is in the wedding. Jess and the other bridesmaids are taking Leslie to Nashville for one more fling before the ring, and I told Jess I would LOVE the opportunity to design the invites for the weekend. They are having Leslie's lingerie shower at her home that Friday night, and then leaving for Nashville Saturday morning. So the two invites were mailed together to the guests. The "Saddle Up" invite is 5" x 7" and the lingerie party invite is 3.5" x 7". Of course you could always order the lingerie invite larger if you want.

Oh Baby! New Baby Shower Invite (And more to come!)

I created these baby shower invites for my friend Lucy. Its actually a wine and appetizer party celebrating the expectant couple, so its a little more sophisticated than the average baby shower invite, which means this design is pretty versatile. It can be used for any occasion, maybe with a change of color, and of course take away the cute little stroller at the top. Or it can easily be adjusted to blue if your guest of honor is expecting a boy! I thought these would also make great birth announcements as well....so many uses. Let me know if you're interested! These are 5" square.

So I bought a web domain...

Yall...I have no idea what I did today, but somehow I bought empressstationery.com. So, I'm going to be working on building a website and eventually kicking the ole' blogspot to the curb. If anyone would like to help out with this fabulous adventure, it would be much appreciated. Not so hot on the website building skills. But I have a good idea of how I want it to look. Don't all come running at once...Ok so I'm going to be working on this while getting photography done, and before you know it...POOF! A new Empress Stationery! Wahoo! P.S. I'm working on cupcake toppers. Don't get too excited.

Tempting Tomato Dinner Menu

My friend Katie over at The Thin Chef was chosen by FoodBuzz to participate in this months 24/24/24. Click the links to read all about it. Its a really cool concept. And this month the main ingredient is Tomatoes! Which I love. So Katie asked me to design some enticing menus for her guests. Now if you like these, don't think you have to throw a tomato dinner yourself just to use the menu. These can be custom-made for your next soiree! And if you need ideas for your meal, check out The Thin Chef!

Texas Grapefruit Namecards....ideas ideas ideas

Just a little something I've been working on at, well, work. One of our magazines (Taste of the South) is having a Texas Grapefruit competition with judges tasting submitted reader recipes using grapefruit. And I had no idea that Texas grew grapefruits...but like they say, everything's bigger in TEXAS! So I'm supposed to make the place cards for the judges. I know its a small task, but someone has to do it : ) This is kind of my ideas (not the actual place card.) Whenever I find out the little details, this will transform into a lovely placecard!

Hey, I Put Some New Shoes On...

Yay for shoes...A girl can't get enough. There are two different options here, the shoe-filled liner with a simple monogram note, or a simple solid liner with a shoe-filled note. You pick. The shoes on the liner or note are Victorian-era drawings/etchings. Pretty cool. Of course all of this can be customized. Just ask.

More Sister Stationery

These notecards were a present to my youngest sister on her 14th birthday. They are 4 bar size, just big enough for a quick note to a friend or a thank you.

To Melissa, on her 23rd Birthday...

I created these note cards for my friend Melissa on her birthday. Cute and sophisticated, just like Melissa. These are 4 bar notecards, so they are a little smaller than the average note card, but perfect for sending a little "shout-out" as Melissa would say.

Sister's Stationery

My sister is in the process of getting an internship in fashion merchandising/design, and she needed some nice correspondence cards that also "look" like her. My sister is one of those girls that can wear multiple necklaces with different pendants and beads, and it all just seems to go together. So I kept that in mind when I created her cards. These can be customized for anyone of course, with a different initial on the pendant and different color scheme. The liner features a feather pattern, same feather on the pendant from the card.

Its the New Year!

My friend and most repetitive customer Miss Lindsay asked me to design a Christmas card for her and her husband that could be used all year long...So here's a calendar! What better way to start off the New Year? This one fits inside a #10, and I believe Lindsay put magnets on the backs of them so they could go on the fridge. Lovely.

Trying my hand at....hand lettering!

I just got through taking a calligraphy class, and while it was fun and somewhat educational, I didn't really learn a whole lot. My professor was about 95, and extremely ADD. And obsessed with german and old english style calligraphy, which is fine if you like that sort of thing. I'm more into the oblique pen style, which shows high contrast between pen strokes. Its also extremely decorative with lots of swirls and twirls. You can buy fonts that favor this look, but I'm kinda tired of relying so heavily on fonts. I want to try something that looks a little more personal and differs letter to letter....anyway. Got bored at work today. Ready for Thanksgiving. Drew this at my desk.

I Heart Silhouette Portraits

I know that sounds kinda dorky, but I think its absolutely fascinating that this is a way people would "document" their likeness before the invention of cameras. I created these three. I'm trying to think of a way I can use them... I have the two girls with the big hair in frames in my office. I think I want to make a series of notecards though...stay tuned.

What Happens when Hunting and Wedding Seasons combine?

Yummy Wild Game Rehearsal dinners (and beautiful invites too!)A friend of mine asked me to design the rehearsal dinner invites for her brother, featuring pheasant, deer, and quail. So...here are the two options I gave her. I love both. We'll see which one she picks.

Rehearsal Dinner Invitation

I created this Rehearsal Dinner Invite for my friend Lindsay who was throwing the dinner party for one of her friends. It is a #10 size insert, with a chocolate brown envelope which has a top flap. Very cute if I say so myself. Simply elegant.

ABCs and 123s...

I love typography, and I designed these mini posters at work while bored....that's a rare occurrence. Anyway, I guess they could be cards too...I'm going to print them and put them in my office at home. I'm going for the green black and white theme...inspired by Pottery Barn of course...I picked up their Christmas catalog while perusing the store this weekend, and it was FULL of ideas. This is my first Christmas in my own place so I'm going to have such a good time decorating. And I'm getting off the subject. My bad.

More Save the Dates!

My friends Allison and Jared are getting married in August, and being the good bridesmaid that I am, I designed some save the dates for her (Jared didn't really care one way or the other...boys just don't get it). Her colors are yellow and orange, and she chose the bottom one. But I like all of them. Well of course I like all of them. Duh. But...have a look...maybe you'll like what you see...

Save the Date! Stephanie and Michael!

My friends Stephanie and Michael are getting married here in Birmingham in May, and Steph asked me to design her save-the-dates. She's inviting a lot of folks from back home, and we had to figure out a design that would bring the crowd to town. I think this will do the trick. Its 5.25" square, and its totally worth the extra postage. (Square envelopes are .17 extra to mail, a little FYI.) Let the countdown begin for May 2nd!
